Gone Nuclear

Standard

This week’s Friday YouTube video link features a video which is both disturbing and fascinating at the same time.

It was created by the Japanese artist Isao Hashimoto and it features a time-lapse map of the 2053 nuclear explosions which have taken place between 1945 and 1998, beginning with the Manhattan Project’s “Trinity” test near Los Alamos and concluding with Pakistan’s nuclear tests in May of 1998. This leaves out North Korea’s two alleged nuclear tests in this past decade (the legitimacy of both of which is not 100% clear).

Natural Healing

Standard

Our desire to heal when we are unwell is a perfectly natural one.

What we often overlook is that the most effective healing is self-healing. In fact, I would go as far as to say that it is the only true healing for our bodies, minds and emotions. And there are so many therapies, medical drugs and procedures, remedies and pills out there that we often overlook this simple fact.

So the question becomes what is the natural remedy or remedies for your situation? What will assist you in restoring your harmony and well being?

In many cases, it is fairly straightforward. For instance, if you cut your finger, well wash it and put a plaster over it until it heals itself.

In other cases, the solution is not so obvious. These more mysterious and chronic situations call for a slightly different approach. An approach which calls for investigation, questioning and above all listening to the results of that inquiry. This investigative approach can take many forms, such as blood tests, kinesiology, dream analysis and psychoanalytical tests.

Another more radical approach is to listen, deeply and in complete silence to the body. To simply listen, unimpeded by analysis, interruption or judgement, unobscured by pain suppressants. And whilst in this deep listening state allow the body to tell its’ story.

This deep listening approach to healing acknowledges our body in its’ most complete sense; the witness, memory and expression of our whole life experience as embodied spirit. This process also recognizes that our unheard story is often at the root of the energy blockages which are the source of our disharmony which manifests itself as ill-health.

So, with this rather radical approach, the story, your story, is witnessed without judgement or trying to change or to heal anything. This non-interference includes you. You are no longer judging, trying to change or heal or justifying anything etc.

To listen and to be listened to deeply, is the healing itself.

Judgement and Choices

Standard

There is sometimes a very subtle way in which judgement and making choices impedes our living being and compromises the whole of who we are.

I’m not talking about the necessary choices, e.g. which way to turn or car, when to stop eating etc.

These are the judgments and choices which separate ‘me’ from every thing and every one else. In the bigger picture an example is the man vs nature concept, which is about as skewed and daft as it gets. On a smaller scale we do this judging business on an unconscious level almost all of the time, as if it is completely natural and normal.

I think this is one of the reasons why we might ‘get’ intellectually the spiritual concept of oneness, but at a living breathing level of our being, it is not what we’re experiencing.

And getting to the point where we can be still enough to let go of our judging and choosing mental machine, so we can re-experience our oneness, takes an enormous amount of practice. And, it is as if, having chosen the be separate in order to experience this being human thing, we find it incredibly difficult to do the simplest of tasks, which is to let go of that decision. Until we can let go of letting go itself.

But then again, being is not a doing.

Christian Orthodoxy

Standard

This week’s Friday YouTube video link features a lecture about Orthodox Christianity.

Fr. John Behr takes on those who dismiss Jesus Christ on “historical grounds,” by explaining how historicism itself is problematic and, indeed, heretical. The alternative to historicism as our mode of interpretation, he explains, is Christ on the cross as the foundation of all our knowledge and interpretation.

Where Evil Is

Standard

We seem to have a certain fascination with evil acts and the people who commit them. They murdering psychopath character has become a staple diet of several TV detective programs and movies. And there is an almost cult-like following for the more famous evil ones from our history, such as Stalin or Hitler.

These modern ways of portraying evil people neatly compartmentalizes them, it wraps them up in psycho-jargon and stereotypes, it sorts them out from the rest of us good folk. So we can sleep safe at night and by day we can use a handy ‘how to spot a psychopath’ guide to weed out those who have crossed over to the dark-side in our midst.

However, as the Russian author Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn reminds us:

“If only it were all so simple! If only there were evil people somewhere insidiously committing evil deeds, and it were necessary only to separate them from the rest of us and destroy them. But the line dividing good and evil cuts through the heart of every human being. And who is willing to destroy a piece of his own heart?”

Time Heals?

Standard

I read a posting on the internet a couple of days ago which quoted one of the rules of life as being, ‘Time heals almost everything, give it time’.

I have to say that I do not agree with that one at all. Many things that people need to heal are buried, suppressed, ignored, forgotten, worked around or put-off for another day, but time itself heals very little.

This view is based upon my experience as a therapist, where the resolution of unresolved past trauma which is still being held in the body, is a major feature of the therapeutic work. And without that resolution of past traumas, very little real healing will take place.
